Conjunctivitis, or pink eye, is definitely an inflammation on the conjunctiva, a clear membrane that covers the outer layer of the eye as well as the inner surface from the eyelids. As with other frequent eye inflammations, conjunctivitis generally looks and feels worse than it is. Even though the pronounced redness may be quite alarming, conjunctivitis quite hardly ever causes extended term visual damage. Pink eye is, however, a problem that often needs being diagnosed and treated early as selected forms of conjunctivitis are quite contagious and any prolonged swelling on the eyes should be taken care of with caution to prevent complications and tissue damage.
